LEAD RESEARCHER, CONSULTANT (5 Positions open)
Overview
GDOi is looking for professional and experienced qualitative and quantitative researchers for an anticipated consulting opportunity. The consultant will conduct and manage a mixed-methods study to inform case studies and real-time review study in five countries in Africa and South East Asia. The research will be used to enhance the knowledge and awareness within the international humanitarian system in the selected countries about the significance and role played by the diaspora in order to learn Where/How Can Diaspora Fit Within the Humanitarian System.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The essential functions of this position include working with project directors to design and implement a mixed-methods research study and program evaluations; overseeing and conducting qualitative and quantitative data collection, statistical coding for data analyses, literature reviews and desk research; communicating directly with clients and external collaborators; and authoring reports, briefings, and other deliverables. There are five positions open, one Lead Researcher per country.
Minimum Technical Requirements

Master’s degree required, Ph.D. Preferred

Strong methodological and analytical skill in terms of being able to guide a team of researchers and subsequently analyze and synthesis results at meta-level

Significant experience in qualitative and quantitative research methods

Strong communication skills (oral and written) in English required.

Excellent analytical, interpersonal, communication, and reporting skills.

Previous experience in conducting similar evaluations/research for international donors would be an advantage.

Proven expertise in the application of coding techniques for statistical analysis

Experience and familiarity with local context and customs (specific to the desired country indicated on your application)

Additional Languages: Depending on your desired country to lead this research, oral and written secondary language is required as follow: Amharic, Arabic (Yemen); Somali (Somalia), Swahili, Urdu (Pakistan- Punjabi would be a plus), Ukrainian (Ukraine), Dari and/or Pashto (Afghanistan).
Preferred Requirements

Technical knowledge on diaspora and humanitarian response with a good understanding of the humanitarian aid system and the gaps that can be filled with diaspora engagement

Research background in diaspora/community engagement/humanitarian response/emergency strongly preferred

Proven experience of leading and collaborating on a project with a team working across several geographies

Track record of written publications would be an advantage

Experience working with Excel® and at least one statistical analysis software package (e.g., SPSS, STATA, R, SAS). Familiarity with Qualtrics a plus.

Experience and interest in working on federal contracts
